Description
The Dumb Waiter, by Nobel laureate Harold Pinter, is coming to The Armidale Playhouse from 24 July to 1 August 2026. This razor-sharp post-World War II comedy of menace depicts a world where humour opens the door and menace walks in.
Two men wait in a basement room for instructions, filling the time with tea, football, the newspaper, and small irritations. In The Dumb Waiter, language is never just small talk. It is a tool, a shield, a weapon. The pauses speak as loudly as the words.
As messages begin arriving, routine starts to fracture and the pressure climbs. Darkly funny, tightly wound, and unsettlingly familiar, this modern classic turns the everyday into something dangerous and asks: what happens when a system demands obedience without explanation?
Get ready to laugh and then suddenly feel the room change.
