    Event description

‘Elegy for an Elephant’ (EFAE) is a picture book of three children's healing journey, following the loss of their father to suicide.  It is inspired by the lived experience of author-illustrator and self publisher Ryan Abramowitz, and his family’s processing and acceptance of their father’s passing. For a story set between the sea and stars, a venue beside the ocean works a charm.  The elephant, having migrated into the world, is Sydneybound, crossing picture book plains in the seabreeze.

In this one night only event, author and artist Ryan Abramowitz will be in conversation with sisters Tami Sussman (author) and Lana Sussman (clinical social worker), discussing creative processes, books, artistic shapes of grief and the mental health elements of 'Elegy for an Elephant'.

Although the story uniquely considers suicide and its impacts, more broadly the book is offered as a beacon of hope and warm hug for those navigating grief of all types.  At its heart, this story honours ways we connect with loved ones we have lost and the timeless nature of love.

EFAE’s release coincided with World Suicide Prevention Day (September 10).  18% of profits from each book are donated to Lifeline, Movember and Support after Suicide.   Ryan, and his twin sisters Gina and Nicole hope all those readers who turn these pages will feel seen, supported and carried in their navigation of grief and repair.

Books can either be pre-ordered from this Humantix page (select ticket option with book) or from www.narrativesofnature.com and collected on the evening (select Pick Up in the basket and please let Ryan know you will be collecting it in person).
