Event description

Are you an aspiring and/or emerging filmmaker in Perth, Western Australia?

Then join us for an insightful roundtable discussion on the intricacies of building and navigating a career in our industry, from indie to long-form and everything in between

Led by a panel of fellow emerging filmmakers, with a wide array of experiences and specialisations, we will discuss a variety of topics, all under this year’s theme of Thresholds.

Specialisation / Pigeon-Hole: What does it mean to call yourself a director, DOP, production designer, screenwriter, locations manager, assistant director… the list goes on and on. From the roles you know, to those you don’t – how can you find your home in such a vast industry?

The ‘Next’ Step: The ever-present question, no matter what stage of your career you’re in, ‘What’s Next’? When things move so fast, you sometimes need to take a step back and ask – where are these steps leading you? We will discuss planning milestones and acknowledging your successes, as no two pathways are ever the same.

Fatigue Management: We all know making films is far from easy, especially when you are constantly pushing the bounds of your own creativity, but how do you sustain that? We work in a demanding and sometimes gruelling industry, so let’s talk about common misconceptions and pitfalls.

Networking On & Off Set: Discuss how emerging filmmakers can gain the “right” experiences and build their network / brand as a crew member. How do you present yourself to others? Where do your passions lie, and how can you capitalise on your creativity / skills?

So come, connect and share your thoughts as we delve into the future of the WA screen industry!
