Film Screening: The Encampment
And a conversation with Dr Nick Riemer and Professor John Keane
From Executive Producer Macklemore, The Encampments offers an urgent, intimate portrait of America’s student movement, ignited at Columbia University as students protested their universities’ ties to the war on Gaza. Their actions sparked a nationwide uprising, with encampments spreading across hundreds of campuses.
The film Features detained activist Mahmoud Khalil, alongside professors, whistle-blowers, and organizers, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe.
The film will be followed by a conversation with Dr Nick Riemer and Professor John Keane who are academics at the University of Sydney and long-time advocates of freedom and justice for Palestinians.
Last year the University of Sydney was part of the global student encampments campaigns, where Dr Riemer and Professor Keane were significant advocates of.
John and Nick are currently being sued in the Federal Court of Australia because their opponents claim that their statements and actions opposing Zionism – the political and military commitment to an exclusivist Jewish ethno-state in historic Palestine – are actually antisemitic hate speech.
Nick and John have started a crowd funding campaign to raise money to cover their legal expenses and this event is to support them and help challenge the devious plots of the Zionist lobby. Please consider donating directly to their crowd funding.

This event is hosted by Palestine Justice Movement Sydney
Tickets will cover the venue hire costs and purchasing the film. Further funds raised and donations will be used to support Dr Nick Riemer and Professor John Keane' fund raiser to combat the Zionist lobby's legal case against them.
