The Energetic Dancers Union presents Flourish
Event description
You have died - now it’s time to let yourself go.
The Energetic Dancers Union have arranged for your passage across the River Styx to the Underworld, leaving New Farm Park at 1.30 on Saturday the 23rd of October.
To flourish is to perfectly balance indulgence & altruism. We are offering you one last chance to flourish - to give good energy, to lose yourself in a song, to be mindful, blissfully mindless, carefree and caring - on a dance floor and among community. The journey and our arrival will be soundtracked by some of the cities best party starters and the Underworld will be adorned with the work of four unique Meanjin-based artists.
We encourage everyone to come dressed in whatever outfit makes you feel like the most like you. Hades awaits us, be ready to bloom <3
This is a one way ticket - Ubers back to the city from the Underworld are approx. $30 or there is access to public transport a 20 minute walk away
This event will take place on the lands and waters of the Jagera and Turrbul peoples. We acknowledge the vast history of gathering on this Country to dance, celebrate and share. We extend respect and gratitude to their Elders, past, present and emerging. The resistance of these nations has not ceased since 1770 and their sovereignty has never been ceded. Energetic Dancers Union stands in solidarity and commits to continued learning in decolonising practice from all First Nations peoples across so called ‘Australia’.
RESPECT, SAFETY & ACCESSIBILITY:
~There will be an upstairs area for quiet and relaxation during the river crossing and a similar space in the Underworld.
~A medic, a social worker and designated safety people will be circulating. They will have everything from tampons to hugs to the ability to ask someone to leave if you are feeling unsafe. We’ll share a pic of them prior to the event so you know who to look out for.
~Unfortunately the boat is not wheelchair accessible, but wheelchair users are invited to join us in the Underworld for free. Please take note the nearest WC toilets are 5 mins away. Please reach out to us if you’re keen!
~Safety and comfort of the EDU community is number one. Come with awareness, think about how you share space and leave any behaviour that perpetuates harm at the door. Racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, or transphobic behaviour will not be tolerated. Some sexy tips:
~Ask people what their pronouns are!
~Ask people if they want to dance before you start grinding!
~Don’t make assumptions about any body, don’t feel entitled to any body!
~If you see someone looking uncomfortable, step in or let one of our safety people know!
