The Experiment in Non-Ownership

In July of 2024 Robin Greenfield set out walking from Canada to Los Angeles on a journey of inner peace and integrity. To prepare for the walk he simplified his life down to being able to carry every one of his possessions with him. As part of his practice in truth and transparency he committed to sharing every secret - everything he has been guarding or hiding - before arriving in LA, entering into a state of complete transparency.

Upon arriving in LA, Robin is giving away his last possessions (yes, even his computer and clothes) and will enter into an experiment of non-ownership. At the depth of this experiment is the question for him, “Can I give more to the community than I receive, even while owning nothing and having no money?”

Robin Greenfield is a truth-seeker, activist, social reformer and servant to Earth, humanity and the plants and animals we share our home with. His life is an experiment with truth and integrity. At the heart of Robin’s action-based philosophy is his dedication to living simply and sustainably as a means of active resistance to systems of destruction and exploitation. Through living closely connected to Earth, he is on a path of personal liberation. Through living simply, he rejects societal standards of consumerism that contribute to great inequity and injustice.

Robin’s public activism involves dramatic gestures designed to reach the mainstream and to provoke critical thought, self-reflection and positive change. His activism creates nuanced conversations on the critical issues of our time, with a focus on solutions for living in harmony.
