The Films of Fanny Howe

On Monday 21 September, Embassy will be screening a selection of short films by the American poet Fanny Howe (1940-2025).

Primarily known for her extensive and radically attentive body of poetry, Fanny Howe also experimented with filmmaking throughout her life, transposing the political and philosophical concerns that charged her literary work into another medium. This selection of Howe’s films was curated by Terrassen, a roving cinema based in Copenhagen (terrassen.bio).

“I decided to stay at the most trusting level with this film and let it emerge from what was given to me, and what I could afford. […] A literature made out of light, lit from itself, ignited by electrical currents; this should cost very little.”
