Speaker Bio:
Scott McArthur is different. Having had successful careers as a scientist and academic, HR Director, business consultant, non-executive director (British Olympic bobsleigh team, Orkney Science Festival and Boroughmuir Rugby), musical producer and now as an international speaker, Scott brings his own brand of multidimensional thinking and a cognitive richness to your business events in a way that will not only leave attendees with a lasting impact that will help them take on the challenges of today, tomorrow and the future beyond.
Having worked with a diverse range of over 200 organisations across the world (including Virgin, Amazon, KPMG, MOD and NHS), Scott knows that whilst most problems are multidimensional, in many cases, the people trying to solve them using experience that tends to be one dimensional. In other words, it’s hard to understand a system that you are part of when you can only see your part of it. By definition, when you have a blind spot, you are blind to it - you don’t see what you don’t see. Scott believes that the person with the fewest blind spots has a better chance of success via better 'system level' thinking, problem-solving and decision-making.
His goal from the speaker’s stage is to encourage and enable multidimensional thinking from the classroom to the board room. He believes that this will be the key driving force behind a new era in human flourishing.
One of Scott mental mentors, the author, poet and philosopher David Foster Wallace, expresses his motivations beautifully: “There are these two young fish swimming along, and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says “Morning, boys. How’s the water?” And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes “What the hell is water?”
