THE GALA 2023 - HIGHER LOVE | A Mental Health Fundraiser

_______________________________________________

We are once again throwing out the traditional seated dinner and black-tie rules to bring you a one of a kind charity event. It’s time to party! Your hosts for the evening are Helena Lowe, Zane Tate and the legendary Mike King.

Levelling up from last years successful event, again, we will excite you with mind blowing theatrical performances, live charity auctions and live music to dance the night away.

THEME:

HIGHER LOVE

FASHION + A EUPHORIC EMBODIMENT

Eu.phor.ic

A Feeling of intense excitement and happiness

Em.bodi.ment

To make manifest or comprehensible an idea or concept, through a physical presentation.

Step through the gallery doors and be transported to a utopian world that has to be seen, to be believed. The Gala 'Higher Love' is a night of ethereal decadence where we celebrate love, and cherish and support those around us.

This is your opportunity to be self-indulgent and wear the things that make you truly happy, nothing is too much! We want to see: Sequins, prints, embroidery, florals, pearls, pastels, gold, whites, feathers, pattern, fur, gowns, over-the-top Suits, headpieces! We can’t wait to see how you embody the Higher Love theme!

Dress code is formal.

BACKGROUND
We want to show support for those in the community living with mental disorders, or supporting their own children, families, and friends, and to encourage everyone not to be afraid to talk about it. Between July 2020 – June 2021, 607 people died by suicide, and 685 the year prior. Mental Health effects everyone, especially our youth. New Zealand has some of the highest suicide rates in the world, including one of the highest youth suicide rates in the OECD.

The Key to Life Charitable Trust came about when Mike King visited Taipa Area School in the Far North where 5 kids had taken their lives within five months. Since 2015 they’ve spoken to over 300,000 kids from Bluff to Kaitaia.

I Am Hope is The Key To Life Charitable Trust, in-school, community, and workplace mental health program. Their aim is to forever change the way the people of Aotearoa think, act, and feel about mental illness and mental well-being.

Gumboot Friday is their free kids counselling program. GF pays for our kids aged 5 - 25 to see a mental health professional of their choosing. “It is time to stop throwing negatives at the problem of suicide and to start throwing positives at the solution”.
Mike King
