The Genetics of Profitable Lamb Production - 5 years of Bowan Park Poll Dorset progeny trial data
Event description
How do we prove which genetics grow fast? Or yield better? Or have superior eating quality?
Progeny trials allow a wide variety of genetics to be born and raised together, data collection to be specific and targeted, data analysis to be accurate, and management variation to be minimised.
With over 2500 progeny from 80 sires, the results have captured a significant snapshot of what the Poll Dorset breed is capable of.
Join us as we look at 5 years of on-farm and carcase performance testing results, considering how specific genetic traits have a greater or lesser impact on the profitability of farm production systems.
- A benchmark of performance across all prime lamb production traits
- Meeting the genetic priorities for profitability in current and future prime lamb production
- ASBVs – finding the optimal balance between traits
Our speakers will explore topics that unpack the genetic priorities for profitability in current and future lamb production.
