Description

Help us build a community that understands the burden of migration and our shared experiences of racism, acculturation and resilience.  By talking about racism, we can fight it, stop and maybe even eliminate it.

 ·      Are you a first-generation migrant?

·      Did you have a room in your house that was only for visitors?

·      Did you have parents who didn’t speak English?

·      Did you spend your childhood being an interpreter, a cultural translator, a systems navigator?

The Good Room is a safe and respectful space for people to share their experiences of migration and racism. This space is about naming and resisting oppression in all its forms. We draw a clear distinction between speaking about racism and being racist. We will not tolerate any racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, or discriminatory attitudes, behaviours, or comments. Sharing your experience is an act of courage and resistance; being racist means enacting or upholding oppression.

There will be swearing, laughing and crying, and we will be using the W word, if this is offensive to you, please consider if this is the right event for you.

This event is hosted by Assunta Morrone and Georgie Prattis: Assunta and Georgie are both 1st generation Italian and Greek migrants, working in community, multicultural and family violence sector. “We believe migrant women’s stories deserve more than a platform—they deserve to echo, inspire, and lead change. “Migrant women have been silenced for too long. We’re here to change that.”

Agenda: Doors open at 6pm for 6.30 start. 6.30 -7.30. panel discussion. 7.30-8pm networking.
