Event description

Join the Jewish Climate Network in embracing pollution-free transport with The Great Electric Trek.

After a scenic drive, at Rochford Winery  you’ll hear from Head of Policy and Business Development at Tesla Australia, Sam McLean, and enjoy a scrumptious lunch.

This community electric vehicle (EV) drive is all about the Victorian Jewish community showcasing the joy and practicality of clean cars and the importance of making them affordable for all.

Why?

  1. Transport is the fastest growing source of climate pollution in Australia – and over half of this comes from private vehicles burning petrol.
  2. Traffic pollution kills ten times more people than road accidents, and is a leading cause of childhood asthma.
  3. Reducing global demand for petrol helps reduce the revenue streams of oil states the sponsor terror.

JCN’s Great Electric Trek is more than just a scenic drive and a communal lunch;
it's a powerful statement by Australian Jews that:

  • We support making clean cars accessible and affordable for all who need one.
  • We believe in clean transport options to help improve our and our childrens’ health.
  • We want to "do our bit" for a safer world for the Jewish people and all future generations.

So why join us?

  • Be a part of a group of pioneering Jewish EV drivers who will shape the story within our community on how we will create a zero-emissions  community together.
  • Show the wider Jewish community that pollution-free cars are the best option for those looking to buy their next vehicle.
  • Learn from experts in the field about the future of electric transport.

What can I expect?

  1. Hear from Sam McClean, EV expert and head of Business Development and Policy at Tesla Australia, in an interview on the future of clean cars in Australia
  2. Cruise alongside fellow Jewish EV drivers in a historic convoy, exploring a picturesque route to the Yarra Valley
  3. Enjoy a delicious vegetarian Italian-style lunch & wine at the Rochford Winery (Kosher options available)
  4. Join in our ambitious endeavor to create an aerial photo of 24 EVs parked in a Magen David formation, to send a powerful message to the wider Jewish community: a Jewish car can be an electric car.
  5. Share your story and experiences driving a zero-emissions car - we’ll get your message out to the rest of the community

Participants will meet at the Caulfield Park Pavilion carpark at 10:30am, where we will head off on a specific scenic route that will be sent out to participants beforehand. After stopping in Yarra Glen to take a drone photograph together, we will continue to our final destination, Rochford Winery (878 Maroondah Hwy, Coldstream), to enjoy a sit-down lunch and talk concluding around 2pm. After that, participants can then make their way back to Caulfield in their own time.

Who is this for?

EV Owners: A fantastic opportunity to connect with other Jewish clean car enthusiasts and share your experiences driving a zero-emissions car. Please bring a friend and/or family member along for the ride! We especially encourage you to invite those who are yet to experience riding/driving in an EV.

EV curious, but don't own an EV? No problem – JCN is offering ten $100 vouchers to our community members to hire out an EV for the day! This will allow you to hire an EV for no cost, or near-zero cost, for the day. Sign up now to be first-in: this is your chance to get behind the wheel and experience the thrill of driving electric firsthand!**

Quality electric vehicles can be rented through carshare platforms Evee and Turo. Rental agencies offer more affordable prices from specific locations, the following links have the electric car search pre-applied: Thrifty CBD, Europcar Albert Park, Hertz CBD.
