The Great Global Mend
Description
Grab that jacket with the broken zip, the jeans with the split knee, or the shirt that's missing a button and bring it along to The Great Global Mend at AH Bracks Library + Creative Space.
The Great Global Mend is Australia's biggest simultaneous repair event: many hundreds of people across the country, all mending something at the very same moment, in an attempt to break our 2025 record (298 menders) for the most people repairing textiles simultaneously. The City of Melville is proud to be one of the venues taking part.
You don't need any sewing experience, menders will be there to help you fix your item from scratch, whether that's sewing on a button, patching a hole with a FabPatch, or mending a hem. Bring a basic hand-sewing kit if you have one, or just bring yourself; we have everything covered.
About The Great Global Mend
The Great Global Mend is a national initiative presented by FabPatch and Care to Rewear, dedicated to keeping clothing and textiles out of landfill by making repair easy, social and normal again.
FAQs
- What do I need to bring?
Bring something that needs mending! And a sewing kit if you have one. We will have mending supplies for you to use at the event, so just bring an eagerness to join the community and get mending.
- Do I need to know how to repair clothes and textiles?
No you don't! That's the great thing about this event - you don't need to be an expert to take part. We will have the amazing Social Textiles team on hand to help out with any mending. Bring one item, learn one skill, be part of something bigger.
- Can I bring an item to be altered?
Not to this event - the Great Global Mend is about repairing and mending to keep clothing in use for longer and breaking records!
- Will you run any workshops to teach me about repairing?
Watch this space! We are planning a workshop to give those that need it a confidence boost to come along.
