The Harbour as a Climate Laboratory - Sydney - Citizen COP 2026
Description
Sydney Living Waters Lab: Climate Adaptation in Action
What if Sydney Harbour became a living laboratory for climate adaptation?
Hosted at the Retort House, this event introduces the Sydney Living Waters Lab — a collaborative platform bringing together researchers, industry, government, Traditional Custodians and communities to develop and test practical responses to climate change.
Discover projects already emerging at the Retort House, including floating living shorelines, oyster-habitat buoys, circular biomaterials and community-led climate infrastructure. Together, these projects explore how nature-based solutions, local manufacturing and community participation can reduce climate risk, restore biodiversity and create more resilient public spaces.
Through short presentations, demonstrations and facilitated discussion, we’ll explore how Sydney can turn ambitious climate commitments into visible, place-based action.
Local community members, COP delegates and partners are all welcome to join the conversation and help shape a program of real-world pilots that can be tested in Sydney Harbour, openly evaluated and adapted for coastal communities across Australia and beyond.
This is a public session by Blue Green Australia.

About Citizen COP Australia
Citizen COP Australia is a decentralised, people-powered movement running alongside the global COPs in 2026. Enabled by People For Nature, but intentionally independent and distributed, Citizen COP invites communities, organisations, schools, businesses, artists, and local groups across Australia to host their own events during the COP period. Rather than a single central event, Citizen COP is a nationwide network of conversations, workshops, and actions that bring global climate and nature discussions into local communities. It connects people to science, solutions, and each other, strengthening civic engagement and ensuring citizen voices contribute to Australia’s climate and nature conversations.
