The Heeters
Description
Everything’s coming up roses for The Heeters. After another dazzling showcase at the High Sierra Music Festival, The Heeters returned to the Crazy Horse in early September and sold the place out. The maturation of the band was on full display as they coalesced their unicorn talents into a performance which had the diverse hipster crowd swooning from start to finish. Apparently it went so well, they are prioritizing one more visit to the CH before the year is out.
They’ve always hung their hat on extraordinary vocal harmonies, and they still do, but now The Heeters have evolved into a four-headed force of instrumental prowess capable of jam-fueled sorcery. They whisk audiences back in time to an era when soul, funk and R&B felt as pure as a batch of fresh linens hung on the line in a warm Sunday breeze. Unfolding organically like something out of a New York jazz club in the 50s, the nuances in the music all come across with a high degree of intention. Touring behind their debut record, Time and Again, the band is finding new ways to seduce and enchant.
The Heeters are the brainchild of ultra-vibey lead singer and songwriter, Tom Quell. His vocal gifts have been known to melt stone and summon springs from the desert. Two members of the world-renowned band, The California Honeydrops, add their tremendous talents to the equation. Lorenzo “Lo Lo” Loera on keys/vocals and Miles Blackwell on bass/vocals will make sweet love to your ears while sparking their share of crushes from the crowd. The newest addition, drummer Nadav Beary, achieves the perfect balance of a delicate, jazzy touch and assertive swagger with his propulsive pocket grooves. It all comes back to those three-part harmonies on instantly-timeless original songs and a dazzling cover or two. Given their trajectory, who knows how much longer they can continue to play rooms this intimate.
