Event description

On Sunday 14th November at the Unanderra Pub, the Illawarra Folk Club will be holding a special fund raising concert for the Henchion Family Appeal.

Martin Henchion was one of our dedicated volunteers at the festival as well as performing as a stand up comic at a club concert. He lived at Bulli with his wife and young family and a couple of weeks ago he awoke at 3am and could smell smoke. His house was on fire caused by a faulty electrical connection. He was fortunate that he and his wife managed to get his children out of the house safely but they had to sit outside and watch while they lost everything except the clothes that they wore.

With the great assistance of the Unanderra Hotel, Neil Rowsell has organised a terrific concert featuring Russ Churcher (Rusty & The saint) , Neil's own band Chord-eaux, the fabulous Sally Forth and the foot stomping Zlatco's Balkan Cabaret.

Everyone is performing gratis and all money raised will go to the appeal.

Russ Churcher used to hail from the mid-north-coast until he came to his senses and moved to the Illawarra earlier in the year. He is a singer/songwriter/parodist/poet/comedian and one of the few performers who have attended every Folk by the Sea that’s been held. Of more recent times he has been the ‘Rusty’ part with Dave de Santi in ‘Rusty and the Saint

Zlatco’s Balkan Cabaret
Free your Inner Gypsy!

Fiery, powerful, gentle, romantic… Zlatko’s Balkan Cabaret brings you all the captivating music of the Romany gypsies and Balkan folk songs. As they share their love of their Romany roots, the vibrant intensity of true gypsy blood flows through their music to transform audiences into a passionate gypsy troupe.

Sally Forth

A group I know called Sally Forth, Like to sally forth and sing,

I thought that they were ‘barbershop’,They said ‘That’s not our thing,’

They said that they were songbirds, Folk singing was their scene,

And they sent along a photograph,To show just what they mean.

It’s Andrew , Sally, Tim and Ed.They sing in halls and parks

And they’ve changed their name by deed poll,They’re now ‘Sally’s singing larks’.

Bigruss publicist for ‘Sally’s Singing Larks Feb 2020

Apart from my bad verse they are also the best singing quartwt that I’ve seen and heard

Chord-eaux

Chord-eaux is an Illawarra-based folk band originally formed in 2009 by Illawarra folk musicians to play concerts in aged care facilities
and community events and has built up a wonderful repertoire of folk songs and tunes from

Australia, Ireland, Scotland, England and other countries around the world.

Chord-eaux has sponsorship as a community band from Wollongong City Council. It is the love child of the Figgy Folk Session Convenor, Neil Rowsell. They are probably the busiest band in the Illawarra,
