The High Street Drifters with The Borough Double Header
Event description
The Borough (Brisbane) are four of Brisbane's nerdiest denim clad hillbillies, born out of the now infamous weekly bluegrass jam at The Burrow in West End, Brisbane. will provide you with breathtaking banjo, guitar and mandolin licks, sweet harmonies and a few laughs which will warm the cockles of your heart and if you're not convinced by the end of the night that things aren't nearly as bad as you thought they were, they boys will issue a full refund, or a banjo lesson (whichever you'd prefer).
A relatively lazy band, have nonetheless managed to organise themselves to play at many of the large festivals in Australia, most notably The National Folk Festival in Canberra earlier in the year.
The Borough are Paul Henderson (Estampa), Marcus Church (The Haystack Mountain Hermits, The Inadequates), Innes Campbell (Zumpa) and Markus Karlsen (The Sheiks). They are the guys on stage wearing all the denim, in case you're confused.
The High Street Drifters are a bluegrass band from Victoria carving out a distinctive place in the Australian music landscape. Led by mandolinist Justin Vilchez and guitarist Daniel Watkins, the band features a rotating cast of some of the country’s finest bluegrass musicians on fiddle, banjo, and bass. Together, they deliver the drive and energy of modern bluegrass while staying true to the places they've grown.
Known for their rich harmonies, breakneck instrumentals, and heartfelt songwriting, The High Street Drifters bring a fresh and unmistakably Australian voice to the genre.
Their 2024 self-titled debut EP firmly established them on the national scene, with the standout single Back to the Hills earning a 2025 CMAA Golden Guitar nomination for Bluegrass Recording of the Year. The release was followed by a packed run of festival appearances across the country.
With new music releasing in the Spring, The High Street Drifters continue to expand their reach, offering a bold and distinctly Australian perspective on bluegrass music.
