The Houdini Thunder Soirée
Description
Strap yourselves in for the finest Melbourne’s music at Young St tavern Fri 23rd October.
Drowning Houdini - A revived and reimagined rock 'n' roll combination thrown in the meat grinder, seasoned with a sonic spice and thoroughly cooked on a rotisserie above volcanic coals. Taste it with your ears!
From the storm of sound and spirit emerges Deep Majestic Thunder — a genre-bending force where psychedelic funk, metal power, and mystic groove collide. Blending thunderous riffs, hypnotic basslines, and primal rhythm with raw, electrifying vocals, the band channels the ecstatic energy of rock’s golden age through a modern, apocalyptic lens.
Born from the Dandenong ranges melting pot of mad genius creativity, The Lickspits are one of the today’s most invigorating bands. Their twisted perversion of what you people call music is drawn from a diverse range of influences from jazz to punk to rock to anything else their twisted minds have been able to conjure. Their sound has delved something that, to this day, nobody has been able to truely decipher. A catharsis to our generation and the frightening world that its members have been forced to endure. Rock and roll is dead, we are the undead, long live the Lickspits.
The Dums are four-piece experimental punk-rock band featuring singer/bassist Marven Van Lim, singer/guitarists Taj Robertson and Hayley Jenkins (who also plays horn) and singer/drummer Aliesha Hinton. Formed in 2025, their music is an amalgamation of rock, country with traditional jazz peppered throughout, bringing recapitulated fervour to the Melbourne music scene. Their songs are driven by jagged, grating guitar riffs, swampy bass, and intricate, powerful drumming.
Unpredictable and playful tempo changes are a key characteristic of The Dums which keep each performance exciting, balancing experimentation with profound energy. The Dums are eclectic, unconventional and likely the world’s smartest band!
Or the stupidest. You decide.
