The Housewarming
Description
“You, me, this house… We’re on different planets now.”
Phoebe and her boyfriend have moved into their first home. To celebrate, she’s invited her old friends for drinks, cheese, and polite conversation. As the night goes on fault lines quickly emerge revealing a combustible concoction of fragile egos, old wounds, new resentments, and painful secrets. Nothing reveals friendship quite like property prices.
The Housewarming is a searing and unapologetic exploration of Australian class, intergenerational wealth, and the mess of growing into different people.
Written and directed by award-winning James Watson (Proud, The Ugly One, Vanya), this new work continues Famous Last Words’ interest in contemporary Australian stories that blend biting humour with uncomfortable truths. Stalwart collaborators Emelia Williams and Virginia Blackwell (The Maids, The Ugly One) return, joined by Chris Gun (Better Man) and Daniel Fryar-Calabro.
Full of recognisable millennial anxieties; housing affordability, social media identities, stalled careers, and the lingering weight of the past, The Housewarming examines what happens when people who grew up together realise they no longer belong to the same world.
