The Importance of Being Earnest
Event description
The Importance of Being Earnest follows the life of two young gentlemen who have created their own aliases in order to put some more excitement into their lives.
John Worthing (Played by Frederick Johnson) has invented a brother, Earnest, so that he may escape his dull life in the country to visit Gwendolyn (Played by Ella Hull) in the city. Algernon Moncrieff (Played by Cameron Noble), decides to take the name Earnest to meet and woo Worthing’s young and beautiful ward, Cecily (Played by Zahra Morton). Things, however, go awry when the two both end up in the country and their secrets are discovered, causing confusion and disarray.
Written by Oscar Wilde, the play is a witty and comedic satire of Victorian aristocratic propriety. That is - all style and no substance.
The Year Drama 12 company, Intention Theatre, has taken this three-act play and transformed it into a modernistic, Baz Luhrmann style performance set in 2022.
It's sure to bring a smile to the face - just like a Prince Louis raspberry to his aristocratic family.
