Event description

The New Hampshire Historical Society presents a professional development opportunity focusing on New Hampshire and the Industrial Revolution. In this two-day workshop for elementary educators, participants will learn the history and get hands-on experience with the lesson plans, projects, and activities developed for students in grades 3-8.

New Hampshire was once one of the industrial powerhouses in the United States, and even, at times, in the world. Explore how the people of New Hampshire harnessed the state’s natural resources and built factories all over the Granite State to produce just about every product imaginable. From the mighty Amoskeag Manufacturing Company to the little brick buildings that sprang up in most New Hampshire communities, the state embraced the Industrial Revolution, and in the process transformed almost every aspect of society. This workshop will cover the evolution of industrialization, the expansion of immigration, and the rise of urbanization that created the New Hampshire we know today through explanatory lessons and summative projects from "Moose on the Loose: Social Studies for Granite State Kids," especially Unit 11: Big Factories and New Industries.

Familiarity with the “Moose on the Loose” curriculum from a prior training will be vital in this workshop. Participants will be given resources ahead of the training to learn more about this high-quality state social studies curriculum for elementary grades created by the New Hampshire Historical Society.

Breakfast and lunch are included. Attendees will receive a $100 Target gift card and CEU credits for the two-day workshop, as well as additional CEU credits for any pre-training work they complete. Please note: participants of this workshop must be public or private school educators in New Hampshire.
