Join us for an intimate discussion and Q&A session featuring a panel of experts from diverse backgrounds including academia, government, and industry as they provide deep insights into the various facets of integrity and give practical perspectives on maintaining integrity in business practices. Moderated by Dr David Schmidtchen, the event will highlight the importance of maintaining trust and reputation and explore the repercussions of poor integrity on public perception.

Panelists

The Hon Paul Brereton AM RFD SC -  National Anti-Corruption Commissioner. Commissioner Brereton was educated at the University of Sydney, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws and serving two terms as President of the Students Representative Council. He was admitted as a solicitor in New South Wales in 1982, called to the Bar in 1987 and appointed Senior Counsel in 1998. In 2005, he was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and on 23 August 2018 he was appointed a Judge of Appeal. From 2013 he was a member and from 2019 Deputy President of the Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal. He was appointed a part-time Commissioner of the NSW Law Reform Commission on 1 June 2016 and Deputy Chairperson on 1 July 2016. He retired from his judicial appointments on 31 May 2023, in order to assume the appointment of inaugural Commissioner of the new National Anti-Corruption Commission from 1 July 2023. His service in the Army Reserve commenced in the Sydney University Regiment in 1975 and culminated in his appointment as Head of Reserves & Cadets with the rank of Major General (2011—2013). As an Assistant Inspector-General of the Australian Defence Force he conducted an inquiry into alleged war crimes in Afghanistan.


Associate Professor James Connor is the Integrity Coordinator and Academic in the School of Business at UNSW Canberra. A/Prof Connor is a sociologist who specialises in understanding the intersection of culture, social action and change. His military and sport research centres on understanding cultural influences on negative behaviours, and consequently, how these might be changed. He has been funded by the Australian and World anti-doping agencies to explore how and why athletes dope and cheat. Essentially, he tries to understand intransigent problems of behaviour in organisations and how we might overcome them utilising novel theory and methods.


Dean Grandy is a government digital and business transformation specialist with extensive experience in the Federal Government domain. He delivers management consulting engagements to a wide range of public sector clients both nationally and internationally, with a focus on the design and delivery of government programs of scale, complexity, and national significance. Based in Canberra, Dean is the Lead Partner for KPMG Australia’s Technology for Infrastructure, Government & Healthcare (IGH) group, and leads the Modernising Government strategic initiative within Management Consulting. Dean began his career as a non-politically aligned Ministerial advisor. Prior to KPMG, he worked as a Lead Partner in Federal Government for an advisory firm, and a Senior Executive at a global systems integration firm. 

Ms Annwyn Godwin Ms Godwin was appointed as the inaugural CEO of the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority (IPEA) on 1 January 2018, and re-appointed for a five year term on 1 January 2020Ms Godwin is an experienced and respected Statutory Office Holder having previously held the dual statutory appointments of Australian Public Service Merit Protection Commissioner and Parliamentary Service Merit Protection Commissioner over two terms since 2008. She has also served as the Norfolk Island Public Service Commissioner during its jurisdictional transition between 2016-18. Prior to these roles, Ms Godwin joined the Australian Public Service in 1990 and has extensive experience in corporate and related fields. She served in the Senior Executive Service (SES) in a number of agencies including, Customs, Immigration and Agriculture. She has also worked in a wide variety of private sector organizations, including the Australian Stock Exchange and PA Consulting. Ms Godwin has been a regular and long-term contributor to both domestic and international forums on public sector integrity, including through her role in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Working Party of Senior Public Integrity Officials.
