He is co-author, with Peter Marcuse, of In Defense of Housing: The politics of crisis. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal CITY: Analysis of urban change, theory, action. Chaired by Associate Professor Dallas Rogers, Associate Professor David Madden is in conversation with Associate Professor Kurt Iveson and Dr Amanda Tattersall about their work in international housing politics and social movements.

The displacement of poor and low-income people from secure and affordable housing is one of the defining issues of contemporary urbanization. How are citizens organising themselves and what kind of actions are they taking in response to processes such as eviction, gentrification, privatization and touristification? Kurt and Amanda, both from the School of Geosciences, University of Sydney, will discuss their Henry Halloran Trust Research Incubator Project on housing alliance-building and organising with David.

The conversation will start with four provocations about the international housing crisis, covering:

    Land and Housing

Dr Laurence Troy, Senior Lecturer in Urbanism & Director AHURI Research Centre, School of Architecture Design and Planning, University of Sydney

    Financial Subjects

Dr Monique McKenzie, Post-doc working across the political economy and sociology of housing from the School of Social and Political Sciences, Political Economy, University of Sydney.

    Regional Housing

Dr Caitlin Buckle is a Research Associate in Housing Studies within the School of Architecture, Design and Planning, University of Sydney
