Event description

As winter deepens and the world tilts toward dark and quiet, join us to explore how the opening verses of Bereishit invite us to understand both light and darkness as part of the goodness of creation. Drawing on text, commentary, and poetry, we’ll consider darkness not as something to avoid, but as a place of intuition, mystery, and creativity. We’ll then move from learning into art-making and reflection, opening space for what can emerge when we create from the unknown. No art experience needed—just curiosity.

Jewish Studio Project builds creative capacity across the Jewish community. We equip individuals and organizations with the tools to navigate change and uncertainty and reimagine Jewish life in a rapidly shifting world. Through bold thought leadership, accessible digital content, leader development intensives, and regional studios, JSP is shaping a future in which every person engages their inherent creativity as a source of well-being, resilience, and spiritual vitality.

Josh Conescu (he/him) is a JSP-trained facilitator who has been working in Jewish education in the Boston area for 25 years. Before teaching, Josh was an improvisational actor / theatre manager in Seattle. Josh happened onto a JSP intensive workshop in Berkeley in November, 2019. The experience rewired his relationship to Jewish texts, teaching and his understanding of how each of us is uniquely creative.
