    Event description

    Joni Mitchell is widely regarded as one of history’s greatest singer-songwriters, but the artist, often frustrated in the music industry, always considered herself first and foremost a painter. The Joni Mitchell Portrait Series celebrates both of Joni’s arts by combining an art class and a tribute concert, for which there are three ticket options available:

    $65 - includes portrait-painting, concert & food/refreshments (seating and easels available for 20 people)

    $35 - includes concert & food/refreshments (seating available for 50 people)

    $20 - concert seat only (does not include food/refreshments)

    For those painting, you will be supplied with instructions and materials to create a personalised portrait in the style of the event’s chosen cover art, guided by local art teacher Ness Mercieca (of Tipsy Frida’s Paint & Sip). Meanwhile, Pepper and Davies will take painters and audiences on a musical tour across Mitchell’s career, weaving in storytelling about the iconic artist’s life. Their musical approach is beautifully authentic, with Joni’s unique re-tuned guitar strings abundant, and vocals that range from the sweeping and lilting folk soprano of the ‘60s to the rich alto of the folk-funkified ‘70s.

    Do you have a favourite Joni Mitchell album cover? The first two tribute shows in this series will focus on two very different self-portraits in wonderful settings that capture the mood of each:

    Our DAY EVENT, on Sunday 5 May, inspired by the Ladies Of the Canyon cover art, will be held at Navigate Arts, in the beautiful Old Tanja Church, surrounded by lush gardens, bush and birds, with an autumnal grazing plate and mulled wine to compliment your experience. 1pm painting class starts, 1:30 concert starts;

    Our NIGHT EVENT, on Friday 17 May, inspired by the Both Sides Now cover art, will be held in the Tilba Small Hall, supported by the quirky saloon and retro vinyl store Sweetwater, who will be designing a special Joni Mitchell Cocktail for the occasion! For those with painting tickets, receive a complimentary Polaroid taken at the bar for painting inspiration; and for all, enjoy a complimentary Turkish street food inspired mezze plate and chai courtesy of Sunda & her daughters. 5:30 painting class starts, 6pm concert starts.

    For Joni fans new and seasoned, and whether a keen listener or painter this is for you. And - what a great Mothers’ Day Gift!
