The 3rd Annual Kaihere Hunt. Run by the Kaihere School PTA to fundraise for Kaihere School.

Join us to support a great cause with an exciting fundraising project for Kaihere school - a new astro turf - and be part of a great competition that will help to eliminate pests from our backyard to keep NZ's natural and native beauty thriving. Our main focus this year is on Possums so we can also pluck the fur - so GO HARD and get those pests!!

Hunting competition opens from 0500 Friday 6th June to 1200 Sunday 8th June.

Thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to be won! Join us for a great day out!

We will have 2 separate raffles that will be drawn at the Hunt Prize Giving on 8th June. You can Purchase tickets for the raffles when buying your Hunt tickets, or buy them on the day. Push the "Buy Ticket" button to find out more :)

An adult ticket enters you into all 3 categories. Each Adult entrant can only win ONE sub-category per Category (Possums, Deer and Pigs). See T&Cs below for full conditions of entry. 

Kids - $15 entry fee

3. Most Climbers (Weasels, Stoats, Rats and Mice only)

4. Most Runners (Rabbits and Hares only)

5. Most Flyers (Turkeys, Magpies, Peacocks, Canadian Geese only. NO Ducks or Swans.)

Mini-Hunter Prizes

E.g. King of the rats, Angriest bird, Ugliest Possum, Monster Hare, Best Dressed Hunter etc

A kids ticket enters you into the Pests Category and Mini-Hunter. Each Kid entrant can only win ONE Pests sub-category. See T&Cs below for full conditions of entry.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

All Entrants Must Follow These Rules and their Specific Category Rules (Adults or Kids). Any failure to comply will result in disqualification.


THINK SAFTEY FIRST, ALWAYS IDENTIFY YOUR TARGET

  1. Hunting hours are 0500 Friday Friday 6th June to 1200 Sunday 8th June. No kills outside of these hours will be accepted.
  2. Every Ticketed hunter will be issued a ticket number on arrival to weigh-in, please retain this number as it may be needed to accept prizes.
  3. Hunting is open to all legal areas. There is no restriction to the area which may be hunted within legal boundaries, including private property permission and any necessary permits.
  4. All firearm regulations must be obeyed.
  5. Weigh-in opens at 1200 and closes 1400 sharp. Hunters to be in line at 1400 to be eligible to weigh-in. We will allow a 15-minute grace period for unexpected circumstances, IF you call this number 0211526966 before 1400.
  6. Weigh-in Station is located at Kaihere School, 1115B State Highway 27, Kaihere.
  7. No firearms are to be brought to the weigh-in. Please lock and secure them before entering the weigh-in.
  8. No chilled/frozen, green (composting) or badly mangled possums or pests will be accepted for entry. Judges decision is final.
  9. All entered Possums will be plucked and the fur to be donated for fundraising for Kaihere School. Please try to keep the possums in best condition as possible. Possums will be disposed of by the Kaihere PTA.
  10. All Pigs and Deer to be taken home by entrants, unless otherwise discussed. If support is required for disposal, please talk to a Kaihere PTA member.
  11. All other pests to be taken away by entrants, unless otherwise discussed. If support is required for disposal, please talk to a Kaihere PTA member.
  12. Should any dispute arise, they will be handled by the competition organisers.
  13. Hunters must be present at prizegiving to receive the prize. If absent, the prize will go to the next in line.
  14. Kaihere PTA nor any of the competition sponsors will accept any claim or responsibility for the actions by the participants.

Adults Entrants Rules:

  1. Each adult entrant can only win ONE sub-category per Adult Category (Possums, Deer and Pigs). The winners will be allocated in order of the category from top to bottom. i.e. if you win “Most Possums”, you will not be eligible to win any other of the Possum sub-category prizes, they will go to the next in line. However, you are still eligible to win ONE of the Pig and/or Deer Sub-categories. Again, the winners will be allocated in order of the category from top to bottom. i.e. if you win “Heaviest Deer”, you will not be eligible for “Best Head”.
  2. Any adult entrant hunting with a firearm must have a gun license or be accompanied by a license holder.
  3. Pigs (Boars only) to be weighed in gutted with testicles and head attached.
  4. Deer to be weighed gutted with testicles attached with head accompanied.
  5. Sambar Deer are excluded from the competition.
  6. Best Deer head will be judged using the Douglas score system and judge’s decision is final.
  7. The Biggest Pig Tusks per Adult entrant will be measured, and judge’s decision is final.
  8. Individual possum, deer and pig kills can only be entered into the competition ONCE by ONE Registered Adult Entrant.
  9. A Registered Adult’s possum kills can also be entered ONCE for ONE Registered Kid. The name and number of the Kid Entrant must be given at weigh-in if the kills are to be entered for both categories. The count is to be verified by the hunter’s signatures in the judging book.
  10. All Pigs will be weighed and weight to be verified by the hunter signature in the weigh book. If two or more pigs achieve the average weight, the winner will be decided by a hat draw.
  11. All Deer will be weighed and weight to be verified by the hunter signature in the weigh book. If two or more Deer achieve the heaviest weight, the winner will be decided by a hat draw.
  12. After weighing and counting, please display the Possums, Pigs and Deer for all to view.

Kids Entrants Rules:

  1. Each Kid entrant can only win ONE Kids “Pests” Sub-category AND a Mini-Hunter Prize. The winners will be allocated in order of the category from top to bottom. i,e, if you win “Most Overall Pests”, you will not be eligible to win any other of the Pests Sub-category prizes, they will go to the next in line. If you win “Most Climbers”, you cannot also win “Most Runners” or “Most Flyers”, so on and so forth.
  2. Every Kid that enters will be automatically entered and presented with a "Mini-Hunter Prize" at prize giving. This prize will be allocated on the day by the judge. It will depend on the pests that are submitted (or even if no kills are presented, they will still win a prize, if the Kid entrant signs in at weigh-in and are present at prize giving). Judge’s decision on Mini-Hunter prize is final.
  3. All kid entrants must be accompanied by an adult with a gun license, while hunting using a firearm.
  4. Kid entrants can enter a Ticketed Adult Entrants possum kills for the Kids “Pests Category”. The name and number of the Adult entrant must be given at weigh-in. The possum kills can only be entered ONCE for ONE Registered Kid.
  5. Only the pest types specified in the Kids Pests Sub-category listing will be allowed for counting.
  6. Individual possums and pests can only be entered into the competition ONCE by ONE Registered Kid Entrant i.e. siblings cannot share pests, they must be entered separately. The count is to be verified by the hunter’s signatures in the judging book.
  7. Individual pest kills can be entered in multiple categories by ONE Registered Kid Entrant i.e. Most Overall Pests and Average Possum.
  8. After counting, please display the Pests for all to view.
