WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

THE PLAYERS:
BOBBY SINGH - Born and raised in England, Bobby spent a great deal of his childhood in Mumbai studying at Sangeet Mahabharati, an institute of music started by the great tabla maestro Pandit Nikhil Ghosh. Recognised with a great talent at a young age, Bobby became a student of Ghosh’s senior disciple Aneesh Pradhan, now one of the most sought after tabla players in the world. Through Aneesh’s guidance, Bobby was nurtured into a mature and internationally renowned tabla player, both in traditional Indian classical music and cross cultural genres, and is renowned throughout Australia and internationally for his work with acts that straddle the divide between tradition and modernity.
He has played with Indian music luminaries such as Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Pandit Ashok Roy, Aneesh Pradhan, Shubha Mudgal, Purbayan Chatterjee, Shashank Subramaniyam, and has won an ARIA award for his collaborative work on the album Djan Djan with Jeff Lang and Mamabou Diabate.
Bobby is considered one of the most experienced tabla players and is a highly respected musician in Australia’s world music scene. Most recently a documentary on his musical life was recorded and shown on SBS titled "Viva, I Belong Everywhere". You can read more about Bobby.
DAMIAN WRIGHT is an accomplished ARIA nominated Flamenco guitarist residing in Sydney, and founding member of the Flamenco ensemble Bandaluzia, with blazing reviews... "Wright imbues every piece with the rich, rhythmic structure so characteristic of flamenco. .....A piece like Khyal, by Wright, has haunting harmonics and an evocative Moorish flavour. It's an imaginative journey: like travelling, without moving your feet". - Loyd Bradford Syke, Australian Stage Online
BANDALUZIA was recently awarded "The Pick Of the Sydney Fringe" at The Sydney Fringe Festival and performed to a sold-out Sydney Opera House Concert Hall as an invited artist to TEDX Sydney 2014. They have headlined The International Gypsy Music Festival, Sydney, The Global Carnival and were on Musica Viva's national touring program 2023.
As a solo artist, Damian was invited in 2014 to perform at The Rajasthan International Folk Festival in India and in 2016 performed at The Shanghai Fringe Festival in China. In 2010 Damian received a development grant from the Australian arts council to study flamenco guitar in Spain with Pepe Justicia, where he spent five years.
Damian has recorded with ensembles RASA DUENDE & THE TRANSLATORS on ABC/Universal and Jazzgroove Records and his compositions have been played on ABC radio national and ABC Classic FM. Damian recently released his debut album “Shifting Sands” (ABC Music) which was The Sydney Morning Heralds ‘Album of the week’ where it was described as “Glorious guitar playing”.
