Trinity in Sydney

Following two excellent Trinity lectures at the Institute earlier this year, Bob Derrenbacker returns to Sydney, together with Dr Rachelle Gilmour, to offer an introduction to the lectionary readings for Year B (which the Anglican Communion will be following in 2027), introducing, respectively, New and Old Testament readings.

Do join us for an in-depth look at the Scriptural readings to come next year, providing helpful context and clarity as we return to sections of the Bible we may not have read for some time – and stay on for refreshments.

St James’ Institute partners with Trinity College Theological School to promote classical theological education in Sydney. In addition to lectures such as this, Institute subscribers may audit Trinity units for $400 (normally $550), while those enrolled at other higher education providers may take Trinity units for credit, by arrangement with their home institution. A number of subscribers are currently auditing Forming the Faith, a unit of historical theology offered by Trinity, with lectures online and an in-person tutorial run by the St James' Institute. Further information at sjks.org.au/institute.

Rev'd Canon Dr Robert Derrenbacker is Dean of Trinity College Theological School and Frank Woods Associate Professor of New Testament. His expertise includes socio-historical approaches to the Gospels and Paul, ancient literary cultures and writing practices, and Jesus in modern film.

Rachelle completed her studies in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible at the University of Sydney (PhD), before undertaking postdoctoral research at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the University of Edinburgh. She is currently co-editor for Journal for the Study of the Old Testament; her current projects include “Sex and Sovereignty in the Hebrew Bible” (volume under contract with OUP) and “Politics and Kinship in the Ancient World.”
