Event description

We invite you to join us for a special screening of The Last Sky (M 15+-rated) on 22 October 2024 from 6.30pm at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville.

This is a powerful documentary about Gaza directed by Lebanese-Australian lawyer and filmmaker, Nicholas Hanna and Palestinian producer, Rihab Charida. The screening and discussion is a fundraiser for Palestine Australia Relief and Action (PARA), an organisation led by Australian Palestinians committed to supporting Palestinian voices and empowering those displaced by conflict.

The Last Sky delves deep into the ongoing conflict in Gaza, exploring the perspectives often ignored by mainstream media. Filmed across Lebanon and Occupied Palestine, Hanna’s documentary confronts difficult questions about Israel’s war on Gaza, the popularity of armed resistance among Palestinians, and the escalating tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. Through his personal experiences and interviews with Palestinian refugees, Hanna presents a nuanced view of the region’s complex and deeply rooted struggles.

With the recent, tragic events in Lebanon and the ongoing genocide in Gaza, we encourage you to bring friends and family to not only gain a deeper understanding of the issues at hand, but to support a Palestinian-led organisation doing incredible work with newly arrived Palestinian families.

Following the film, we will host a special Q&A session with guest speakers discussing the film, the events of today and how we can continue to speak up and take action.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
