    Event description

    July 26 and 27 at 7pm, July 28th at 2pm

Taos-based artist, Arielle Reyna Christian, wants to feel her f***ing fins once and for all. In this debut, self-penned one-woman show — a loose spoof on the Disney classic — this Lil Mermaiden will do what she has to do to get back to the ocean, which is to say: her truest, most feminine nature. This includes meeting different parts of her psyche that’ve both uplifted her and held her back, like Cursula (the “snake monster”), Prince Eric Harrod (and alllllllllllllll those obsessed over boyz-2-men) and King Try-A-Ton (the killa patriarchy), for starters. The mythologically-based ritual theatre performance meets comedy stand-up routine meets full-voiced musical is hilariously soulful and lays it all out to sea, in a prayer for personal power and pure authenticity.

    Runtime: 'Bout an hour-ish.

About the artist: Arielle Reyna Christian is full of voice across genres. It’s alive in her award-winning journalism work, her poetry, her soulful singing, and her award-winning community radio show, The View from Venus, on KNCE, where she tells-all from a vulnerable heart. She loves to play, whether with paint — homing a hummingbird on a hand drum — or collage or in nature or while creating a sketch comedy show with friends. In the 575, she’s written regularly for the Tempo, and she’s been onstage with Metta Theatre, the Whüt Ritual Theatre Performance Collective and the Spiritual Olympics sketch comedy crew. She credits Taos for helping to grow her voice and the Wildflower Playhouse for blossoming her theatrical revelries.
