This year, for the first time the fest will screen Marvin Booker Was Murdered. This is only the second theatrical screening of this "incendiary" film in our city. This "Made in Denver" civil rights film earned the prestigious Soul of Southern Film Award handed out by the Indie Memphis Film Festival.

MBWM investigates Denver's reaction to law enforcement's culpability in the death's of Marvin Booker, in 2010 and Micheal Marshall in 2015; inside the notorious death-house that is the Denver Detention Center.
The film covers what happened to Marvin Booker, an unhoused street preacher, after he was beaten to death in 2010 before being booked into the Denver detention center for wanting to get his shoes. It then covers how the devout Booker family from Memphis. The amazing civil rights legal team of Darold Killmer and Mari Newman from Denver. And clergy, activists and community from both cities sought to restore Marvin's constitutional rights. Culminating in a stunning 2014 civil rights decision that left many wondering if City administrators ever read the jury's verdict?
