"The Merger" - film and conversation withcomedian/actor Damian Callinan and musician David Bridie
Event description
Fundraising event for Apollo Bay Rural Australians for Refugees - ABRAR
"The Merger" (2018) tells the story of Troy Carrington (Damian Callinan) a former professional footballer who returns to his country town to coach the hapless local footy team.
The movie tells a poignant, and important, tale of how a struggling Aussie Rules footy team (The Roosters) in an equally struggling town (Bodgy Creek) learns to accept people for who they are and what they can offer a community, with the recruitment of refugees to keep the club viable. The tagline for this film is "If they can play, they can stay."
Following the film, actor/comedian Damian Callinan will have a light-hearted discussion with David Bridie (musician).
And then we will serve a selection of footy/country town-themed refreshments (think pies, sausages, scones, slices sandwiches...) washed down with tea, coffee, a beer or a glass of wine.
Wear your AFL or local team colours and join us for a fun family* footy evening.
Please buy an Early Bird ticket if you can - it helps us with catering, seating etc
