In 2026, training at The Mill is changing. Instead of separating classes from productions, the work of the rehearsal room is being embedded directly into The Monday Drop-In. Each session brings together artists currently working on Mill productions with actors and creatives who wish to drop in, train, and be part of a living, working room. This is professional practice made visible.

The Monday Drop-In asks big, practical questions: What are the pathways into live performance beyond traditional conservatoire training? How do directors train? How do artists move from hobby practice to paid work — and what actually changes when they do? Over ten weeks, participants can attend one session, several, or the full quarter. This program replaces Acting 201 and 301, creating a clear, transparent pipeline from training to performance.

Sessions draw from the real tools of rehearsal: Meisner repetition, voice work, physical warm-ups, text analysis, characterisation, scene work, and more. The curriculum is responsive — shaped by who turns up and what the room needs. For those attending multiple weeks, there may be light homework; for others, the room remains open and adaptable.

Drop-ins are also a way to “audition” the Mill — not formally, but honestly. See if this kind of rigorous, text-based theatre practice is for you. Or, if you already know it is, come be in the room.

Tickets are available for single sessions, three sessions, or the full eight-week block. Fees simply cover costs — this is not about monetising ambition, but building a sustainable, shared practice.

Tickets & Attendance

You can book and pay online for one session, three sessions, or all ten sessions. Prefer to be spontaneous? You’re also welcome to turn up and pay on the night by card.

Attendance is recorded via sign-in sheets at each session.

Please note: in 2026, all booking fees and GST are passed on to the buyer (a small but mighty help with our quarterly BAS bill — thank you for supporting an independent theatre).

Here's the breakdown:

1. GST (Goods and Services Tax): A standard 10% GST is applied to all ticket prices, in line with Australian tax requirements.

2. Booking & Payment Processing Fees: These cover the costs of securely processing your transaction and managing ticketing services.

   • Purchases via Humanitix: 4% + $0.99 per paid ticket (excluding GST)

     • Example:

     • $50 ticket → $2.00 processing fee plus $0.99 = $2.99 (excl. GST)

     • 10% GST on $52.99 = $5.30

     • Total customer fees: $50 + $2.99 + $5.30 = 58.29

   • Purchases via Square: A flat 2.2% transaction fee applies to all payments

     • Example:

     • $50 ticket → $1.10 processing fee

     • 10% GST on $51.10 = $5.11

     • Total customer fees: $50 + $1.10 + $5.11 = $56.21

Location

The Mill Theatre is in Building 3.3, the Screencraft and KeepCo building which is a short walk from Capital Brewing. There are two easy ways to approach the Theatre:

PARK in P3 at the back of the precinct. From there you will see building 3.3 which has a large Screencraft sign. The public entrance is just up from that sign (not underneath it!). Once inside, walk about 5 metres and the theatre is to the right, next to Mojo Guitars.

WALK from Capital Brewing or the Less sculpture into the KeepCo building, pass Ramen Daddy and at the end of the corridor we are on the left. 

Parking

All parking in the precinct is free with several accessible parking spots in all the parking locations. The best spot to park is P3 at the back of the precinct. If you park elsewhere please be warned that signage and way-finding around the precinct is extremely difficult. Arrive in plenty of time to possibly get lost, possibly be in a bad mood!
