Money Killed Jonny 'Cheap Fast' EP Launch Festival
Friday 1st December 2023
5pm doors
Money Killed Jonny are back at the Servo with a lineup so diverse we’re calling it a festival. A
celebration and the launch for their long awaited new recording, Cheap Fast.
Start the evening off in the outdoor lounge with a DJ set by the amazing Attila the Hunni, then
come inside and soak up the sounds of the Overnight Lows and the zesty Heatseeekr before
Money Killed Jonny rip out a live set of the stuff they’ve been working on for the last year.
Cheap Fast is the first release from Money Killed Jonny since the sell out success of the album
Cool Hand. Driven by the diverse insightful songs of Steve Robinson your feet will move to the
intoxicating rhythms while your mind adventures through poetic stories and the questions of
modern life.
Money Killed Jonny
Money Killed Jonny is the essence of hand made music after all the flashy effects have worn off.
It is a sound that is as fresh as it is timeless, complex as it is minimalist, lush as it is raw,
organic as richly composted soil, and as real as you can get.
Weaving together the rhythmic beats of Latin, the raw energy of rock, the infectious catchiness
of pop, with the soulful depth of blues and the improvisational spirit of jazz, Money Killed Jonny
transcends traditional genre boundaries in an exploration of the world of music and sound.
The driving force behind the ensemble is Steven Robinson. A prolific singer-songwriter and
multi-instrumentalist, but also a storyteller whose poignant lyrics delve into the human condition
and critique the craziness of it all in profound and often playful ways.
Alongside him are the equally talented Rob Laurie on drums, ukulele, and backup vocals, and
Tim Ritchie on bass. Together, these versatile artisans bring a wealth of experience to Money
Killed Jonny, taking listeners on a musical adventure with the groove-infused bass lines created
by Tim Ritchie and the infectious beats of Rob Laurie's drums.
Heatseeekr
Heatseeekr are a throwback, a call out and a hit up. They rock they pop they jest they bop. If
you like zesty tunes served with a slice of irony then pull up to the table and let the boys slice
and dice it for you.
The Overnight Lows
The Overnight Lows is a big hat band Andy Ophee has put together to play the songs that he
has recorded for a new album coming out soon. They have a sound that brings out the red dirt
and dryness of country Queensland in songs that unravel the fabric of local, national and
international politics. Andy is about community, how that really is and how it could be. Poignant,
bitter sweet with a dry wit and biting intelligence.
Attila the Hunni
Atilla the Hunni is a DJ and producer local to the Illawarra and far South Coast. With a taste for
the groove of melodic techno and house music she can be as chill or as manic as you want with
a sound that just gets in and makes you want to move. Back in the Illawarra after performances
at Home the Venue in Sydney and boutique festivals in the South Coast.
