The Nervous System - exploring resilience & modulation
Event description
This workshop offers an immersive journey towards an embodied understanding of the nervous system!
Explore the Nervous System through the practices of Body-Mind Centering® and a Polyvagal-informed approach to Dance-Movement Therapy.
Discover embodied strategies for self-regulation to foster resilience and somatic practices that build capacity to modulate through different states. This workshop weaves together embodied anatomy, movement explorations, creative play, guided touch and somatic imagination whilst promoting safety and self care.
This workshop is designed for therapists, educators, performing artists, yoga teachers and other body-based practitioners, (as well as students of these fields).
Program:

After a creative introduction we will focus on embodying the anatomy of the Nervous System, exploring its inherent resilience – we will do that through looking at images and models and also through touch and movement and sensorial explorations.
Afternoon: (2 pm - 6 pm)
We will focus exploring the Autonomic Nervous System, (Sympathetic and Parasympathetic) and in particular the Vagus nerve, offering practical strategies to promote resilience and capacity for modulation.

Body-Mind Centering® (BMC®) is an integrated approach to transformative experience through movement re-education and hands-on repatterning. Developed by Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, it is an experiential study based on the embodiment and application of anatomical, physiological, psychophysical, and developmental principles, and utilizes movement, touch, voice, and consciousness. This study leads to an understanding of how the mind is expressed through the body and the body through the mind.

Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is a framework that explains how the autonomic nervous system influences our social behavior, emotional regulation, and physical state, particularly in response to perceived safety or danger. It emphasizes the role of the vagus nerve and its different branches in shaping our responses to the environment.
