The Old Haunt
Description
Two years after the death of a friend, Darcy, Sid, Red and Macca reunite at their old Newtown watering hole for one last long, messy night. Over cheap jugs and increasingly unreliable shared stories, they attempt to work out what happened to the friendship they once believed would last forever.
The Old Haunt is a play about youth. It’s about the people and places of our past that are foundational to our existence in the present and of our hope in the future. More than anything, it’s a play about the collaborative act of friendship. These folks did not simply share a house or a pub; they made one another, repeatedly telling stories that affirmed who they were and where they belonged.
As the night unfolds, old yarns are spun, embellished, challenged and re-written. Their reunion begins to work only when they stop searching for the single correct account of the past and commit to telling it together once more.
The Old Haunt asks what remains when the people who knew us best are gone, and whether friendship can be rewritten without being erased.
