The Other Portrait: Exhibition Opening

Join us to mark the launch of The Other Portrait. There will be a viewing of the exhibition at UTS Gallery from 5pm, then the curators will lead a walk to SCA Gallery for the opening celebration. Visitors are also welcome to join for the opening at SCA Gallery from 6pm.
About the exhibition
UTS Gallery & SCA Gallery are pleased to present The Other Portrait, an exhibition curated by Cherine Fahd (Director Photography, Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, UTS) and Julie Rrap (Associate Professor, Acting Chair, Sydney College of the Arts).
The Other Portrait brings together work by artists who have an established relationship to the concept and traditions of portraiture. The exhibition provokes a new analysis of the self and the other to examine the ways artists draw on their bodies, families, communities, cultures and experiences to underscore the paradoxes of subjectivity. Located across two spaces – UTS Gallery and SCA Gallery – curators Cherine Fahd and Julie Rrap propose the self and the institution as sites in conversation.
Newly commissioned work by artists Cigdem Aydemir, Simon Cooper, Gabriella Mangano and Silvana Mangano, Sara Oscar, Patrick Pound, Ronnie van Hout, William Yang, as well as curators Rrap and Fahd, consider the self-portrait in the age of the digital double, in which representations of the self are endlessly replicable but adrift from reality.
