The Papercollar Pickers & Cap in Hand - Live at Tritton Hall
Event description
Come and experience a special night of harmony, history and humour, with performances from two fine acoustic folk/blues duos.
The Papercollar Pickers are Rod Vervest and Craig Sinclair, two musicians hailing from WA’s south coast, who share a common love for ragtime guitar, close harmonies and Albany’s granite coastline. Rod is a seasoned fingerstyle acoustic guitarist, fronting a series of successful musical projects, alongside his current role as Artistic Director for the Albany International Folk and Shanty Festival. Craig is an award-winning singer-songwriter, guitarist and dobro player, who plants his storytelling lyrics in the rich riverbed of old-timey and contemporary folk styles. This likely pair came together in 2010 to provide the rhythmic engine room for popular WA acoustic quintet the Pepperjacks, honing their tasty dual thumb-picking arrangements and single microphone technique. Now on opposite sides of the country (they are both inter-generational and inter-jurisdictional) they reunite in happy moments to celebrate the old stories, the old tunes and the mighty right thumb of old Big Bill Broonzy.
Cap in Hand are Nigel ‘Muddy’ Walters and Dave ‘Fingers’ Spira – a duo who share a common love of the subtle tones and contrasting dynamics of a wide variety of acoustic instruments, which they blend together to produce a refreshing and enchanting mix of songs and tunes…..both old and new. Nigel sings, plays cello mandolin, dulcimer, guitar, harmonica, spoons and more….and is well known to Australian music lovers through his work over more than a decade with the iconic Wheeze and Suck Band (subsequently reincarnated as Traditional Graffiti). Dave plays exquisite finger style acoustic guitar in a range of different tunings – and an increasing amount of banjo too. With a repertoire that spans at least six centuries be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride that will take you from the ‘deep and meaningful’ to the ‘light and whimsical.’
