In a fast-paced world that often prioritizes achievement over well-being, cultivating self-compassion is an essential skill for maintaining mental and emotional health. This class provides a safe and nurturing environment where you will learn to practice self-compassion in daily life, empowering you to treat yourself with the same kindness, care, and understanding that you would offer a dear friend.

Through a combination of mindfulness practices, reflective exercises, and guided meditations, you will learn to recognize and gently shift negative self-talk, embrace your imperfections, and foster resilience in the face of life's challenges. By the end of the course, you will have developed a deeper connection to your true self, enhanced your emotional well-being, and created a solid foundation for ongoing personal growth.

This course is ideal for anyone looking to improve their relationship with themselves, including individuals who struggle with perfectionism, self-criticism, or emotional burnout. No prior experience with mindfulness or self-compassion practices is necessary.

This course is a practicum for the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Training Program (MMTCP).

Mareni Orduña (she/her/ella) is a bilingual and bicultural mindfulness and meditation teacher. While growing up in Mexico, she began practicing meditation at a young age at her father’s martial arts school. Following her artistic spirit and adventurous heart, she migrated to the USA to pursue a BA in World Music and Cultures at San Francisco State University. Since 2014, she has offered dynamic mindfulness, yoga, and meditation classes to youth and adults in the Bay Area. In addition, Mareni works as a language interpreter. She is passionate about this work because it puts her at the service of the Latinx community by bridging the cultural and language gap for the Limited English Proficient (LEP) folks.

Mareni found refuge in her yoga and meditation practices to support herself while integrating into a new country. She enjoys nature, hiking, cooking, traveling, and studying flamenco dance and music. She is a Vipassana meditator and practices ancestral healing traditions from the Mesoamerican Cosmovision. She continues the legacy of her abuelas while preparing her own herbal remedies and skin care products.

Mareni is a 500-hour YTT-certified yoga instructor. She contributed to the Stanford University and Pure Edge program on yoga and mindfulness for youth in the East Palo Alto School District. She is completing a two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP) with world-class teachers Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. The MMTCP is certified by the Awareness Training Institute and the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley.
