The Petrov Affair "Men Are A Luxury Item" Album Launch, with guests Golden Fang and Tired AF

The Petrov Affair have forged a distinctive style— indie at heart without leaning on indie clichés— delivering hook-laden tracks with wry, self-deprecating lyrics and a refreshing absence of rock tropes. After honing their craft in the bars and clubs of Sydney’s Inner West, the band now announces its debut album, Men Are a Luxury Item.

Over the last couple of years, the band has revealed their sound and intention with the release of the singles 'Back On Top', 'The Ballet', and 'White Out'. Backseat Mafia praised 'White Out' for its “crystalline delicacy” and “poignant melancholy,” noting its soaring chorus and hailing it as a welcome return.

Slightly psychedelic, atmospheric, and irresistibly melodic, the album is strikingly original yet echoes the literate sensibilities of Australian icons like Underground Lovers, The Go-Betweens, The Apartments, international acts such as Destroyer and Lambchop, and even some of the retro synth sounds of Air.

The result of a long and evolving process, marked by experimentation and refinement, the songs possess a lush art-pop sensibility— in the form of a sophisticated and detailed sonic palette, and a poetic streak of melancholia.

Joining The Petrov Affair to help launch the album are those great purveyors of indie rock Golden Fang, and folk devils Tired AF.
