In this compelling public talk, Professor Toby Walsh, award-winning author and Chief Scientist of the UNSW AI Institute, will explore the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence — from early expert systems to today’s generative models.

The presentation will unpack the breakthroughs that have brought us to this moment, the myths that persist, and the real-world impact AI is already having across industries and society. With a focus on where Australia stands in the global AI race, the talk will also reflect on the ethical, technological, and economic challenges ahead. 

Professor Walsh has recently published a book, The Shortest History of AI.
