Farming can be challenging in an urban environment such as Glen Eira, but with careful planning and innovative strategies it's possible to grow veggies, herbs, fruits and other plants while making the most of your limited space.
'The Plummery’ is a tiny 1/14th acre urban permaculture system that produces almost all of the household’s vegetables, herbs, fruit and even quail eggs – amounting to more than 450kg of produce in 2020 (https://www.katlavers.com/the-plummery/).
Gardener and designer Kat Lavers will speak about how ‘The Plummery” has overcome challenges to create abundance from a small urban space and present a case study that demonstrates the contribution home gardens can make to food security, cost of living, climate resilience and community.

Please feel free to bring any surplus produce, seeds, cuttings, plants, gardening magazines etc to swap and share!
Please note that this is an event for Naarm/Melbourne gardeners only. If you live outside this area, please contact your council to find out what free sustainable gardening events are available locally.
If you have any access or support questions or requirements in order to participate fully (eg. interpreter), please let us know at least two weeks prior to the event and we will be pleased to assist you. Photos will be taken at this event, but there is an option to opt out on the day.
