The Purpose and Practice of Pranayama
Event description
Of all the tools available to us, pranayama - facilitating comfortable conscious breathing - holds the greatest potency of our experience in this body, in this lifetime. When the breath is negatively effected, so then is the mind, when the mind is negatively impacted, so then is the breath. So what happens then when we form a conscious, gentle relationship with the breath and are able to softly, comfortably guide it's grace, its texture, it's continuity, even it's length?
Pranayama gives us something tangible to hold onto when everything else feels unsteady. It gives us something to both follow as well as to lead, it shifts the atmosphere of our organs and tends to the most important part of our constitution - respiration. Having an intimate relationship with our breath, can show us when things aren't as they should be in the body - for in order to breathe well, the body must attend the process - and as the breath improves, so too the condition of the body.
Pranayama is asana, it is meditation, it is the bridge between the two; from the gross to the subtle.
Join us for this very special day of practice, of study, of stillness and peace. Of transcending the noise of the world and finding connection with both earth and space. The day's practical and theoretical components will take place at Greenridge Memorial Hall, with lunch and ceremony happening by the river at 'Wee Warra'. All food will be ayurvedic, vegetarian and glorious, made by the food artiste Sarah-Kai Fletcher.
