WOMENZSHED ONSITE DIY WORKSHOP - THE REAL DEAL
with SARAH MURRAY
Saturday 11th and 18th February
BirdCare Aotearoa, the largest bird rescue charity in NZ, have a wide range of projects they need to improve their facilities at their busy centre in Green Bay, Auckland.
This is an amazing opportunity to learn DIY and tool skills skills from an expert builder in a real situation. There is so much to learn about using power tools on location and being creative within limitations of the tools and materials you have to hand.
What can you learn?
- Practice at working out solutions to common DIY situations
- Learn skills which can be applied to projects at home
- Use a range of tools in a supportive environment
- Ask questions about how to do similar jobs at home
- Improve facilities at the bird hospital so that more birds can be cared for
The range of projects includes:
- Fixing and building outdoor aviaries
- Setting up perches in a new ward
- Building a floor/deck for the new toolshed
- Putting together a kitset tool shed
- Fixing locks and catches

What to expect:
2x3 hour sessions which will run 9 am to 12 pm.
PPE (eye, ear, respiratory protection) will be available but you are welcome to bring your own. Sturdy footwear and raincoats are advisable.
We require a minimum of 4 women to run this workshop.

Sarah is a highly qualified builder, furniture maker, educator and mentor with over 30 years experience working in these industries. She is passionate about supporting women to be confident with power tools, to do jobs around their homes, make things from wood, or enter the building industry, if that desire is there.
