The Road to Net Zero: What can New Zealand and the United Kingdom learn from each other?
Event description
In the wake of COP28 the spotlight is once again on climate action and global efforts to reach Net Zero. The United Kingdom and New Zealand have both felt the effects of Climate Change in recent years, with Britain witnessing record heatwaves and New Zealand experiencing the devastating impacts of Cyclone Gabrielle. There is a concerted effort in both countries by government, businesses and individuals to reduce and mitigate these effects. This lecture will compare and contrast these approaches. We will hear from three highly renowned speakers with varying experience across climate advocacy, policy and industry. In hearing these differing perspectives, the event will seek to address what the UK and New Zealand can learn from one another on the road to Net Zero.
The headline speakers will be:
- Sir Jonathon Porritt, Campaigner, author and sustainability expert.Â
- Nigel Topping, Business Champion for the Climate Change Committee.
- Wendy Miles, Barrister at Twenty Essex, with specialism in international arbitration and dispute resolution within the climate change transition
Other speakers will include:
Sally Martin, Chair, NZUK Link Foundation
John Lang, Founder and Convenor of Kiwis in Climate
Penelope Warne, Senior Partner, Chairman of the UK LLP Board for CMS
Munir Hassan, Partner, Head of the CMS Energy & Climate Change Group
Dr Sam De Silva, Partner, Global Co-Head of the CMS Commercial Practice Group
We hope you can join us for what promises to be a topical and lively discussion.
Regards,
