The Rules You Didn't Know You Were Running
The private rules behind how you lead, delegate, decide and grow.
Every business owner runs on a set of private rules. I’m the one who holds it together. Never take a risk you can’t cover. If I want it done properly, I do it myself. Nobody sat down and wrote them - your values did, usually a long time ago ... and they’ve been making decisions on your behalf ever since.
I’m talking about the values you can see in how you actually spend your time, money and energy, which are often different from the ones on the website.
Each of these values is a strength, and each one comes with a rule attached:
Security can stop you taking the next risk.
Freedom can make structure feel like a cage.
Achievement can make slowing down feel impossible.
Being needed can make delegation feel like letting people down.
Control can keep the business's growth dependent on you.
None of these values is wrong ... but ... the things you value most can also become the things that limit you, and it’s very hard to change a rule you can’t see.
Over breakfast we’ll look at:
the values that are really running your decisions, in your own words
the rules those values have written for your business
where those rules still serve you, and where they’ve become the ceiling
one rule worth testing, and what becomes possible when you can see it clearly
The conversation draws on some of the most respected work on how adults change, including Robert Kegan and Lisa Lahey’s research at Harvard, Shalom Schwartz’s cross-cultural study of human values, and the Demartini Method.
Expect insight, some honest challenge, and probably a moment where you see a decision you’ve been making for years quite differently.
The Table is a facilitated breakfast conversation for established business owners who are already carrying real responsibility and are curious about what’s happening underneath their strategy. It’s limited to 12 people, with a beautiful breakfast included. A parking guide will be sent before the morning.
