The Samsons in Fremantle, 1829 to 2025 - the family, the town, the business
Event description
The Samson family’s connection to Fremantle stretches back to the mid-1800s. In this special event for Totally Lit, members of the family share the story of Lionel Samson and the business he and his brother William began when the Swan River Colony was in its infancy.
This is a rare opportunity to not only hear the story of the Samson family’s unbroken connection to Fremantle over the recent centuries, but to also view the 1850s building, once home to Lionel and his family. You will have the opportunity to visit the upstairs Museum, assembled to acknowledge the sesquicentenary of 1829. You will then be invited to join Jacqueline and other Museum volunteers for morning tea in the Lionel Samson Cellar, beneath the recently restored facade of the grand 1898 building.
Things to note:
- This is not an accessible venue.
- Entry is by the old door on the footpath which will have a blue and white Museum sign.
- The venue has several levels/staircases and patrons are advised to wear suitable shoes.
Presented by the Samson Family History Group.
