Event description

Welcome to The Saturday Storytellers' Club!

Not to be confused with our weekly, online Storytellers' Club, this workshop takes place monthly, in-person at the Greythorn Community Hub.

The Saturday Storytellers' Club is for highly motivated young writers (8 - 12 years old) who are eager to write, learn new skills, and find inspiration in a variety of prompts and engaging discussions. Each workshop will be designed around a theme and/or writing technique, and include:

  • a welcome and warm-up activity
  • a writing prompt and discussion/group brainstorm of an example
  • time to plan, write, and edit an original piece of writing at your own pace
  • individual feedback and tips from your facilitator
  • time to share (optional) and listen to other writers in the group. Parents are welcome to come in early to listen as well!

Whatever their current level, this workshop is suitable for kids who are truly excited about writing and want to practice and learn how to become better writers. Please know it will be assumed that they have basic writing skills and the ability to write fairly independently when they join us.

✏️ This workshop is held in person at the Greythorn Community Hub, Balwyn North.

✏️ Please bring along your preferred writing materials (notebook, pencils, etc). We will also have materials on hand you are welcome to use!

✏️ Handwriting is preferred (call us old-fashioned, but we still believe this is a valuable skill! We also find it helps to tap into our inner creativity without the distraction of screens that are present in such a large portion of our lives. Having said that, if typing on a device really helps your young writer, we are open to whatever works and will make the workshop most enjoyable and valuable for them.)

✏️ Limited to 15 writers per session.
