The Season with Snaps Truly Launch
Description
Calling all Dockers fans! Join us for the launch of The Season with Snaps Truly – we may have lost the trophy, but we will never lose those purple hearts. The Season is a celebration of our passion and resilience, forever faithful in the face of victory or defeat.
It’s the book we all need to help us celebrate the Dockery this summer.
Representing Snaps Truly, editors Geoff Hutchison and Michael Barker will be in conversation with David Whish-Wilson chatting all things football and rehashing the season that was.

Snaps Truly
What do we really know about him? Was he once a Fremantle fringe player? He likes to hint that might be true, but there are no records to substantiate such a claim. Is Snaps even his real name? Probably not. Apparently, there have been sightings in Fremantle down the years – of a dodgy-looking character going around pubs either offering patrons bags of octopus allegedly ‘fresh off the boats‘ or most recently seen riding a black BMX bike that probably wasn’t his down South Terrace. But he knows his footy and can sniff the salty breeze of the public mood. Whoever Snaps is, he presents as someone who might have been, but perhaps never really was. His writing can be oddly lucid and sweet-natured or bitterly acerbic. Too triggered by a twitchy mind to be reliable, but always worth reading. Mr Truly is represented in polite company by Michael Barker and Geoff Hutchison. And they know barely more about him than we do.

Geoff Hutchison
Geoff Hutchison has enjoyed an extraordinarily diverse career in Australian media. He has been a current affairs talkback radio host with the ABC, the national broadcaster’s European correspondent and, before that, a senior reporter for The 7.30 Report. He has anchored election night specials, reported from war zones – where the fighting usually stopped after he arrived – has faced arrest as a potential White House intruder – trying to take a short cut back to his hotel – and has also investigated the existence of fairies at the bottom of Icelandic gardens. Before life was that serious, he spent many years as an award-winning reporter/producer for the Nine Network’s Wide World of Sports and Sport Sunday programmes during which time he competed in the World Bog Snorkelling Championships, swam against the then world 100-metre freestyle champion Alexander Popov and auditioned at a professional wrestling school in Sacramento, California. Not satisfied with that eclectic mix, Geoff released his first book in 2025, How Not to Become a Grumpy Old Bugger, an invitation for blokes to lead better lives as they age. He is currently working on his second book, which invites fathers to become perfectly adequate and sometimes rather excellent version of themselves.

Michael Barker
The Hon. Michael Barker was on the bench of the Supreme Court of WA, 2002-2009, the foundation President of the WA State Administrative Tribunal 2005-2008, and a judge of the Federal Court of Australia 2009-2019. He is the publisher and editor of Fremantle Shipping News, an e-zine all about Fremantle.
