An ECEC sector in transition - Making sense of a once in a generation correction

The ECEC sector is in the midst of a once in a generation reset as the forces of supply and demand re-calibrate alongside additional overlays from child safety concerns, inflation pulses and workforce shifts to make the operating environment particularly complex at the moment.

The Sector Connect + ECEC Owners & Operators Forum 2027 will bring together owners, operators and senior leaders from across the sector for a practical and candid conversation about operating in today's environment and what the future may hold.

ABOUT THE FORUM

This is not about predicting what might happen. It is about understanding the realities facing services now and identifying the strategies, decisions and operating models that can help businesses remain financially sustainable while continuing to deliver quality outcomes for children, families and educators.

Across a day of expert insights, operator case studies and open discussion, the forum will explore the issues that matter most to the viability of an ECEC service, from occupancy, revenue and costs to workforce, compliance, risk, technology, growth and operational efficiency.

Key questions we'll explore:

How sustainable is the current ECEC operating model?
Where are the greatest financial and operational pressures coming from?
How can services manage rising costs while remaining competitive?
What does a sustainable centre P&L look like?
How can operators improve occupancy and revenue without compromising affordability?
Where can costs be reduced and what should never be compromised?
How can technology and new operating models improve efficiency?
How do owners balance financial sustainability with quality, compliance and workforce requirements?
What should operators do when a service is underperforming?
What will it take to build a resilient ECEC business for the years ahead?

This forum is for the people responsible for making the big decisions. It is for past, current and future leaders who have, are or will be driving outcomes into the future. It is an opportunity to share opinions and shape views that can make a difference, a real difference to their organisations.

For owners and operators navigating an increasingly complex environment, this is an opportunity to step back from the day-to-day, understand the forces shaping the sector and leave with practical ideas for running a more sustainable service.

The question isn't whether the operating environment is getting tougher. The question is how we operate successfully within it.
